Psychoanalysis is the original “talking cure” out of which psychotherapy developed. It can be conducted sitting up or lying on the couch. One of the advantages of lying on the couch is that you might feel freer to BE with your own thoughts. Allowing yourself to talk from the couch helps to shift you out of the social habits or constraints you learned to adopt when carrying on an ordinary social conversation face to face.
My approach to psychoanalysis is relational, engaging and flexible. I hold the same values and intentions that I do when working psychotherapeutically. If you are interested in psychoanalysis, let’s discuss that. In the meantime, you can take a look at several articles that I have published in psychoanalytic journals to better understand what constitutes a psychoanalytic process.
