Marital, Couples, and Relationship Counseling

I work in therapy with straight, gay, married, unmarried couples and those in alternative relationships. Some couples come to work on staying together and developing a more satisfying relationship or better communication. Some are in conflict. Others simply want to deepen their relationship. Those in alternative relationships often come to address the same issues, concerns, or conflicts as in traditional arrangements but with the additional complications that emerge through the challenges of multiple needs and personalities.

I have also worked with those who want help to separate amicably and respectfully.

In my work I integrate psychodynamic understandings with a communication skills approach to:

  • Create a safe place to talk and explore feelings and thoughts.
  • Learn how to communicate directly and respectfully.
  • Explore family histories and past relationships toward gaining a better understanding of your relationship dynamics.
  • Identify hot-button issues, impasses, conflicts, emotional triggers.
  • Resolve conflicts and create solutions for being together.

Sessions initially are 45 minutes in length, yet the time can be expanded to meet particular situations.
